Version 3.0
[ 1:18 am ] Happy Birthday to me. Yay. I’m finally 30 … odd, I still feel the same except that I get a little tired after 12am nowadays. It’s been a long day and I’m feeling tired, but felt compel to write about it before it becomes stale and I get demotivated writing. Yee See has been really sweet trying to get people together for this. I know she’s been trying really hard with the very very little contact she has with my ‘friends’. And I appreciate the effort she puts into these things. She gave me 2 hard boiled eggs this morning. Ok, this might be a custom for most families but this was really a first for me … something that we don’t practice in our family. Culture shock haha. What an odd practice :) After service we had lunch with my family and my brother foot the bill. That was really nice of him (ahem, being the more financially stable person in the family). I owe him a birthday meal now. Lunch was great; we had it in Dynasty Restaurant located at Summit itself. Uh … can’t remember what we ate except for Dim Sum and crab. Yeah, crab in the afternoon. We went to catch a movie at Tropicana City Mall, first time there. The mall is pretty new but kinda small compared to the other shopping malls around. I’ll probably drop by there once in a while. Yee See made a dinner reservation for 8 people at My Elephant. Only 2 came, haha. Suddenly everyone couldn’t make it. Oh, this IS a birthday to remember. It’s ok, everyone had their own reasons. I’m not a celebrity anyways, just a 30 year old man *shrugs* I have many things to be thankful for, so I choose to give thanks to God. Despite everything, He is still good. I had already made plans last year on how I wanted to celebrate this year’s birthday. I guess a lot of things were flung out the window because of my financial situation. We haven’t received our payments yet. Most people think birthdays are only a day that’s all about YOU. I had wanted at least this year to be slightly different. I wanted to bless those that I consider friends; guess there will be another year. Yay. Happy Birthday to me. 3 comments Wednesday, November 25, 2009
Hi, I am back
[ 3:34 pm ] Yes ... I haven't been blogging for a long time now. Well, I have a pretty good excuse. Things were just getting a little too crazy over here. Whatever free time that I could spare was put into work. Not really a good idea. At what cost? A lot ... God has been really faithful and good to us. He is, and still is ... and will continue to do so. How else would a small 2 man company caught the attention of a certain world largest handphone manufacturer? Did we just got our big break? I dare not call it a big break, but a break nonetheless, who know what else God has in store? We managed to establish a good working relationship with Nokia, something that perhaps was out of my imagination. A couple of weeks ago, uh ... many many weeks ago, we sent over an app we created to Nokia, just to 'show off' (haha, thick skin) to them what we're capable of doing with their phones. Was surprised to receive a reply from them. We were then invited into Forum Nokia Pro. Invited, because you can't apply for one :) Basically this allow us to gain access to their prototype phones for development purposes. Pretty cool, coz the phones are shipped directly from Finland by courier. Too bad we have to return the phones when we're done with them. This in itself is a testimony, because FN Pro is only given out to strategic partners. You know what that means? We're a company that Nokia recognises. A tiny 2 man company, recognised by Nokia. How great is that? We were then approached to work on a project by Nokia, however only as a sub-contractor since they had already approached a developer. We came in only to create and conceptualise the design. I can't say how much we were paid for that, since it was a new experience for us, but the fee was enough since it was in Singaporean dollars. I don't mind earning Singaporean dollars ... from Malaysia, that is. I think our designs are pretty decent la, don't want to boast about it, but it's better than all the other widgets that were already out there. Oh wait, this sounds like boasting, ho ho ho. A few weeks later, we were contacted again, whether we'd be free to attend a meeting in Singapore for a possible project with Nokia and one of the telco over there. We only had 24 hour notice, so we flew down to Singapore the next day for the meeting and flew back the SAME night. Never will I do that again. The fatigue was just horrible. The meeting went pretty well as we got acquainted with our Nokia contact in Singapore. Really thank God for His provision. We managed to get both projects and work started immediately as they were rushing for a Christmas promotion. Both project paid very well. So well, that it could only be God. We had so much favour. Securing the projects was one thing, developing and completing it on a tight 2 week deadline is another thing. Putting in close to 18 hours everyday to meet the deadline is crazy, and I probably will not want to go through this again ... unless there really is a need for it. This somewhat affected my relationship with Yee See, really need to be mindful of work life balance. At what cost will I go? Of course she understands the importance of this project, of course she wants the best for me, of course she's supportive ... of course. Knowing and feeling it are two distinctive issues. I might know that this is good for your career but why do I feel neglected at the same time? See what I mean? Anyways, thank God it's over! We submitted the widgets to Singapore, while there are some bugs that needed to be fixed (there's no bug-free applications in this world, ok?), they were quite pleased with our work and I just hope this will open more opportunities for us to work together in the future. The future was only 3 days away as we were asked to create a version of the widget for keypad phones :) If this isn't God, I don't know what is. I'm so looking forward to what's next for us. Ok, that's a little update and testimony from me. It was Yee See's birthday yesterday! Took her to the KL Bird park ... kinda knew she would love it, and thank God she did. You don't want a moody girlfriend, seriously, you don't want a moody girlfriend that was 'neglected' for almost 2 weeks. I HAVE REDEMPTION! Bird Park + Movie + Beautiful birthday present + Surprised steamboat dinner = Happy girlfriend. I think that's a good equation. Oh, she was runner up for the Miss Emerge pageant. Quite proud of her, humble beginnings mah ... don't look down at small pageants. It helps build up your confidence, and it certainly did a great deal to an introvert like her. So bangga right? 2 comments Archives nothing |
